Critical – these instructions do not necessarily apply to all vehicles. In all instances, refer to the vehicle manufacturer’s / owners manual for specific boost starting instructions.
If only jumper cables are available, and the booster battery is in another vehicle, then follow this procedure when connecting the booster cables. In both cars apply the handbrake, turn off all switches, and place gear selector in Neutral or Park position. Check connection to the chassis.
Connect one cable to the positive (+) post of the discharged battery.
Connect the other end of the same cable to the positive (+) post of the booster battery.
Connect the second cable to the negative (-) post of the booster cable
Make final connection of the second cable on engine block of the chassis of stalled vehicle
Ensure all booster cable connections are secure
The engine of the stalled vehicle may now be cranked
Caution: Certain motor manufacturers such as BMW, Mercedes Benz and Audi require a spare battery or alternative electrical supply to be connected before removing and fitment of a new battery. Failing in doing so could result in the damage to the vehicles electronic management system. Therefore always refer to the owner manual for the correct fitment procedure.
